This morning we got the chance to meet with Bob Tiffin, founder of Tiffin Motor Homes. Everyone we have met since we discovered Tiffin Motor Homes has had only nice things to say about “Bob”. Every one of his employees sings his praises. So when we got the opportunity to sit down with him, we were convinced that there was something special about Mr. Tiffin. About 3 minutes into our meeting and hearing about our travels, he told us, “You need to make sure you find a good church to attend while you are out there on the road.” Hmmm. Maybe we are on to something here.

Throughout our hour long meeting, Mr. Tiffin answered each and every one of our questions in great detail, offered up suggestions on getting the most out of our coach, and gave us his extension and told us not to hesitate to call him personally if we had any questions or concerns. I think I know why Tiffin products are the best selling in the industry, it’s simple Bob Tiffin. His approach to business is simple; treat people the way you want to be treated. We enjoyed hearing about the new developments that the company is working on for future models, but we look forward to many more years of enjoying our Tiffin Motor Home.

Chris came back tonight to finish up our customization work. The drawers that he put in are wonderful, you would never know that they weren’t originally on the Bus. Chris is a great guy and does superb work, I highly recommend him for anyone heading into Red Bay.

Mr. Tiffin and company got it worked out so that we can get the window installed in our door tomorrow morning, so we will wait until we get that done before heading to Atlanta.

As the rain fell softly on the motor home last night we stopped in Holly Springs, MS. Last time we drove through this area we found Wall Doxey State Park and their disk golf courses. Sam requested if we had time, that we stop by and play again. Time permitted so we stopped. We got up this morning and began playing (frisbee golf.) I say began, because as we played the 8 hole the torrential downpour began. Needless to say we were rained out after 9 holes. We had a great walk back to the RV in the rain. It’s been a long time since we have gotten that what. Oh and for those keeping score 45 days of rain free weather before we got the RV detailed, 0 days of rain free weather since. We ended the night back in Red Bay, Al. Where Chris Berry is installing some custom made shelves for us. He didn’t quite finish, so that allowed us to order a couple additional drawers and stay one more night.

We got into service early this morning and spent the day in two service bays. The crew here did an incredible job and got everything on our list completed. We are now in tip top shape and ready to hit the road again, tomorrow that is.

With over 10,000 miles logged on this trip alone and a couple of weeks off, we headed to Red Bay, Alabama, home of Tiffin Motor Homes, maker of our motor home. There are a few little things that we need to have tweaked on our motor home. We have heard so much about how wonderful it is to visit the plant, and since we were only 120 miles away, we thought this would be the perfect time visit.

When we first pulled in, we were a little surprised. We had heard such wonderful things that we were expecting a resort campground similar to what Lazy Days has in Tampa. That’s not the case. This is more of a parking lot with RV hookups. They didn’t have any sites available when we arrived, so we spent the first night running our generator. However the next morning, we were assigned a site and met the man who gets the service scheduled. It looks like we will be here for a few days, they may be able to get us in on Friday.

That night we discovered why people love to come here. Around dinner time, for us – after dinner for most of the others, many of the people staying here come out and visit with each other. It’s a time to show off the changes they have made to their coaches and talk about how much they love them. It’s a great atmosphere, there are no strangers, just fellow RVers you haven’t met yet.

Today we took the factory tour. All I can say is WOW! This is a very open tour, you can talk to anyone working on the floor, ask them all of the questions that you want. Watch them assemble the new model motor homes and touch anything as it goes down the line. It is amazing to see these things built.

It comes into the assembly line as a blank chassis, this one already has the basement compartments installed on it.

Then the plumbing and subfloors are installed.

The tile work comes in pre laid on it’s own subfloor, it just needs to have the specific coach cut outs done on site. Then a machine lifts it up as one HUGE piece and places it on the subfloor.

The inside cabinets are installed

The side walls are all built on site and

then cut and placed on the chassis.

After the ceiling and insulation are installed the fiberglass roof is lifted up as one piece

and placed on the top.

The final touches are done inside and this coach is almost ready for market.
